Ethics Commission

Mission 

To assist the City in interpreting the Ethics Article (Section 2-66 to 2-73B) of the City Code.

Purpose

The Bowie City Council adopted a Public Ethics Ordinance which requires Councilmembers, candidates for office, certain board and commission members, and certain employees to disclose financial interests. This ordinance also sets minimum standards for the ethical conduct of City business.

To assist the Council in this regard, an Ethics Commission was created. The Commission consists of five regular members and one alternate member, appointed by the Council. The Commission is assisted in its work by the City Attorney or independent counsel.

Duties

The Commission is the advisory body responsible for interpreting the Ethics Article. In fulfilling this charge, the Commission performs the following duties:
