The Parks and Grounds Division of the City of Bowie Community Services Department is responsible for maintenance of City-owned property. This includes a network of parks and recreational facilities, right-of-ways, beautification areas, and stormwater management ponds. There are also 1,100 acres of park land, eight playgrounds, ten ball field complexes, one skate park, and one dog park.
Parks and Grounds staff consists of thirty-four full-time employees, including five assigned to the Stormwater Management Division. Additionally, eight to ten temporary laborers are employed from April to November and assigned to various projects. The Fiscal Year 2017 Adopted Budget for Parks and Grounds is $3.1 million and $450,000 for Stormwater Management. The Parks and Grounds Division represents 7.09%, and Stormwater Management represents 1.12% of city expenditures.
