Stormwater runoff has become the leading source of pollution to local waterways across the country. Various federal and state regulations drive stormwater management, but the ultimate responsibility lies with municipal officials.
Part of the City's strategy for managing this runoff is through the use of stormwater management ponds. The water flows into these man-made ponds through a series of drains. Stormwater management ponds are an effective way of filtering water before it flows back into our rivers and streams.
Maintenance of the City's 79 stormwater facilities is performed by the Parks and Grounds Division. These facilities include 112 acres of basins, outfalls, and drainage areas. Maintenance includes mowing, tree removal, fence installation/repair, rip-rap cleaning and repair, and erosion repair and stabilization.
