The Green Team has an Executive Committee made up of 12 individuals, but there are many subgroups that function alongside of it and welcome volunteers, depending on your specific interest. Below is the list of subgroups:
Natural Resources hosts events such as container garden workshops, weed warrior workdays, and promotes native planting initiatives throughout the City
Food, Health, and Wellness (currently seeking a chair) promotes healthy living and healthy lifestyles in myriad ways
Energy focuses on solar and other energy efficiency solutions in the City
Local Economies (currently seeking a chair)works to help make connections with local businesses and educate them on the Green Bowie Business program
Green Schools connects schools to all things "green" including resources, certifications, and grants
MAPS (Multi-modal Access and Public Spaces) works on all things open space, mobility, and connectivity, focusing on complete streets, hiking/biking trails, and alternative transportations
Bowie Gardens 4 Wildlife helps to keep the City a certified National Wildlife Habitat and put on annual habitat tours
If interested in joining any of these subgroups, please attend an Executive Committee meeting or contact the City’s Sustainability Planner at 301-809-3044 or email@example.com. Each subgroup is chaired by a member of the Executive Committee so coming to one of the monthly executive meetings is a great way to gain direct access to, and information about, each subgroup.
The team meets at 6:30 p.m. on the third Monday of each month (except on holidays and in the month of August). Meetings are currently virtual. Please see the City calendar for details.
