  1. Fair Housing Month Online Resources

    The City of Bowie cordially invites you to join the Office of Grant Development & Administration and the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development (Fair Housing & Equal Opportunity Office) as we celebrate the 52nd Anniversary of the Fair Housing Act by hosting a Fair Housing Symposium. Due to emergency declarations related to the coronavirus (COVID-19), the City’s 2020 Fair Housing presentation and supplemental resources will be made available on the City’s website on April 6, 2020. April is National Fair Housing month and the City joins the nation in this celebration of equal housing opportunities for all.

  2. Annual Stream and Community Clean-up - CANCELED

    April 4, 2020, 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM @ sites located throughout the city

    Update March 17, 2020 - updated guidance from the CDC requires us to cancel this event for 2020. If you decide to take a walk around your neighborhood to ward off cabin fever, please consider taking a bag with you and picking up any trash you might find. Stay tuned here as we may schedule a clean-up for October.

    Join your friends, neighbors, City staff, and our co-sponsor, the Bowie Community Center, for this year's clean-up at one of our sites across the city.
    Volunteers walk streams and other areas collecting trash. Supplies are provided (gloves and bags), and Student Service Learning (SSL) hours are available for Prince George's County students.
    Sites will be finalized by late March. Please contact Tiffany Wright to register or to suggest a site that needs cleaning. If you're participating with the Bowie Community Center, please register with them (Brittany.Russell@PGParks.com).

  4. Annual Action Plan Public Hearing #1 (online meeting)

    April 9, 2020, 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM @ This hearing will be held online via Zoom. Please register for the online hearing at bit.ly/BowieAAP

    Bowie is in the process of developing the City’s 2021 (HUD FY2020) Annual Action Plan (AAP). Due to the current public health crisis, these hearings will be held online via Zoom meeting. Interested participants should register at bit.ly/BowieAAP. As an Entitlement Community with HUD, the City is required to produce the AAP through an internal planning process. and a public participation process (Community Participation Plan). It covers the City’s funding priorities and programs (goals, projects, and activities) in the following areas: Housing Fair Housing Homelessness Non-Housing Community Development

  7. Daughters of the American Revolution Lecture Series: Dorsey Chapel, an historical landmark in the African American Community - CANCELED

    April 14, 2020, 7:30 PM - 8:30 PM @ Belair Mansion

    Built in 1900 as a Methodist church, Dorsey Chapel served as the social and spiritual center of Brookland, an African American farming community. When the chapel was scheduled for demolition in 1980, the Friends of Dorsey Chapel organized to preserve the church, located in Glenn Dale. This beautiful building was chosen as one of the most beautiful churches in the south by Southern Living Magazine in June 2018. Historian Artura Jackson, from M-NCPPC, Prince George’s County will share its rich history.

  13. Electronics Recycling Event - CANCELED

    April 25, 2020, 8:00 AM - 2:00 PM @ Parking lot of the Solid Waste/Recycling Building at Public Works

    There will be a free electronics recycling event in the parking lot of Solid Waste & Recycling Building at Public Works on Saturday, April 25 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Public Works Department is located at 16350 Annapolis Road. Residents can bring their old electronics (see list of acceptable items below) for recycling. There is no charge to recycle items, however the contractor will provide on-site hard drive destruction at a cost of $10 each. The fee is paid directly to the contractor. Bowie Police Department is proud to once again be a drop-off location for April 2020's DEA Drug Take Back Day, a nation-wide effort to safely and responsibly dispose of unused or expired medications in our cabinets at home. Drop off medications to be responsibly disposed of at the Police Department, located at 15901 Excalibur Road. Hours are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thank you for choosing to safely and responsibly dispose of medications!
