[ARCHIVED] Stakeholder Meeting on Belair Dr. Traffic Calming Measures 10/10, 7 p.m.

Stakeholders Meeting on Belair Drive Traffic Calming Improvements
Tuesday, October 10, 2017, 7 p.m.
Kenhill Center - 2614 Kenhill Drive

At its meeting of April 21, 2014 the Bowie City Council conducted a public hearing on the proposed revision to Conceptual Site Plan (CSP) 06002 for the Melford property. As originally proposed to the City, the CSP revision included: up to I 00,000 square feet of retail, up to 260,000 square feet of employment, 126,520 square feet of research space and up to 2,500 dwelling units (including up to 500 senior adult multi-family units, 1,500 non-senior multi-family units and 500 townhome units). The City Council voted to approve the CSP for Melford Village, but determined that the residential component should be revised to include 1,000 senior multi-family units (which may include assisted living facility units), 1,000 non-senior multi-family units and 500 townhome units. The Council believes this change will provide more opportunities for seniors, reduce the high number of market rate multi-family units and generate less traffic overall. The City Council approved the CSP with eight conditions, including Condition #4 regarding Belair Drive:

Condition #4.
St. John Properties shall implement traffic calming measures along Belair Drive between MD 3 and Kenhill Drive, including four ( 4) or more locations for traffic calming devices, prior to the issuance of any residential building permits for Melford Village. The applicant, its successors and/or assigns shall be made responsible for all traffic calming improvements noted above. St. John Properties, Inc. has worked with the Department of Public Works to create a traffic calming improvement plan for Belair Drive, between Kenhill Drive and Beechtree Lane. The improvements will slow vehicle speeds and act as a deterrent to outside traffic traveling through the Belair Drive neighborhood. The purpose of the Stakeholders Meeting is to discuss the proposed improvements and provide an opportunity to address any questions or concerns residents may have about the project. The Stakeholders Meeting will be held on Tuesday, October 10,  at 7 p.m. in the Multi-Purpose Room of the Kenhill Center, located at 2614 Kenhill Drive. Upon request, sign language and/or other accommodations will be provided for those individuals with disabilities.
