[ARCHIVED] Food Waste Program Seeking More Participants

Foodwaste

The Bowie Food Waste Program is looking for more participants. This is a free program where residents are given a kit to store their food waste, such as fruit and vegetable scraps, eggs shells, coffee grounds, etc.. The waste is then picked up every Wednesday morning by Public Works and taken to the Prince Georges County Compost facility, where it is ultimately turned into compost!

So far we have diverted about 15,000 pounds of waste from the landfill and helped create the compost product LeafGro. This program is only available to residents of the Idlewild, Yorktown, Victoria Heights, Overbrook, Belair Meadows, Saddlebrook, and Saddlebrook West neighborhoods. Please call 301-809-3044 or email Ashleigh Armentrout for more information. You may also sign up on our Green Bowie page.
