Celebrate
the 50th Anniversary of the Fair Housing Act by attending the Fair
Housing Training on April 19, 2018, 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at City Hall.
The City of
Bowie in conjunction with Maryland Department of Housing and Community
Development and Baltimore Neighborhoods, Inc. (BNI), one of the oldest and
largest fair housing organizations in Maryland will present several sessions on
Reasonable Accommodations, Fair Lending, Filing a Fair Housing Complaint, and
Tenant/Landlord Rights and Responsibilities. RSVP by April 16th by sending an
e-mail to cholland@cityofbowie.org and include Fair Housing Training in the subject
line.
The Fair
Housing Act was written into law under Title VIII of the Civil Rights Act of
1968, as amended, and signed by President Lyndon Johnson. The Act prohibits
discrimination in housing because of religion, disability, gender, national
origin, race or color, or familial status. During the month of April, the
City's Office of Grant Development & Administration will host several
educational activities related to the rights and obligations under the Act for
tenants, landlords and others, including businesses, real estate companies, and
homeowner associations.
