Emergency Food Distribution for City of Bowie Residents

As part of the City of Bowie's COVID relief programming, funded via the CARES Act, the grants office, in collaboration with the Department of Community Services, the Bowie faith community, and many volunteers, distributed emergency food aid. The food available was a selection of non-perishable groceries that could be used to prepare a variety of meals, and distributed at drive-through events with all volunteers wearing PPE.

Overall, the emergency food assistance program in 2020 and 2021 distributed 3,227 bags of non-perishable groceries and served 868 households representing 3,253 Bowie residents. The program recruited 150 community residents to help sort, pack, and distribute the food to residents.Bowie Food Distribution Fall 2020
